Yoga therapy is a well established form of treatment and prevention for mental and physical health issues, also used as a method of maintenance and self-care. Scientific evidence has emphasised the efficacy of yoga therapy as a form of treatment for dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The breathing reflects the state of our mental state. When we are relaxed, so is the breathing. When we are stressed or agitated, the nervous system goes into stress mode and the breathing becomes rapid and shallow. Deep even breathing and steady gazing (drishiti) throughout the yoga practice promotes the state of meditation, having a profound effect on the calmness and steadiness of the mind. In a set of one-to-one sessions I provide practical tools to handle states of imbalance in the nervous system which one might come across in daily life.
